The focus of this article is on sports performance. As I read, I noticed that every example offered was of a male athlete. Do women use these sports enhancement tools as well? The development of various uses for psychedelic drugs is very much aligned with the pharmaceutical companies. A drug is researched, developed, tested, manufactured, and marketed for any indication under the sun. I do not think finding innovative uses or additional markets for products is inherently flawed. But I believe accessibility is also an issue. I can't help but be dismayed to see high-profile athletes enthusiastically endorse psychedelics when so many people are suffering from mental health issues. This article, for me, not only points out the glaring discrepancy but also points to societal values. We reward and give attention to the ‘winners’ — to the competitive and tough ones. They're the ones that need to thrive so they can keep winning at life. Those others that can't quite keep up them — well, they can be left in the dust. It does seem to align with today’s political landscape.
